They also don’t require bots and can be used within your Discord client right now, without any other integrations needed. Let’s get started!
1. Italics
If you’d like to add italics to your message, there are several ways you could do so. One way involves highlighting the text and then clicking on the italics button which appears. Another method involves typing in the markdown required, which consists of an asterisk before and after the message. However, there also is a command which adds italics to your message too. Simply type in the following: /me [your message here] Then, press Enter and your message will then be displayed with italics!
2. Start a Thread
If you’d like to start a thread, try out the thread command, which is great for creating a discussion related to a particular topic. For instance, if you want to ask a question of the day, but would like all discussion for this to be sub-sectioned into a relevant thread, then you could do so by utilising the thread command. To try it out, simply type the following: /thread Then, you’ll be asked to enter a name for the thread. Type in the name for your thread. After this, hit the Tab key and you’ll then be prompted to enter a message. This is the first message of the thread, and for the question of the day example above, it would consist of the question you’d like to pose to your server’s members. Then hit Enter, and your thread will be created! If you click on the thread, the screen will be sectioned in two; one half will consist of the regular server, while the other half will contain the messages for the thread.
3. Change Your Nickname
If you’d like to change your nickname, you can do so by using the command shown below. This will automatically change your nickname so that it becomes the nickname you specify after the command. In order to try it out, simply type the following into the Discord message box: /nick [your new nickname here] After this has been typed, then hit the Enter key to change your nickname! It’s quite a useful way to update your new nickname, rather than going into your Server Profile settings and then updating it to reflect your new nickname. I’d definitely recommend trying this command out!
4. Shrug
If you ever wish to reply to a message with a shrug reply, a kaomoji which appears like so: ¯_(ツ)_/¯ I’d definitely recommend trying out the shrug command if you’d like to add this to a message or just to reply with it! Simply type in the following command to make use of it: /shrug Then hit Enter, and it’ll then appear! It’s a great reaction for when you want to just “shrug” or want an alternative to “I don’t know why” or “Not sure, to be honest.” It’s a perfect way to insinuate those messages all in a single kaomoji!
5. Text to Speech
If you’d like to convert your message to Text-to-Speech, then this command would be very useful! To try it out, simply type the following: /tts [your message here] After this has been sent, the message will be read aloud using the Text-to-Speech function that Discord provides. Depending on the permissions your role has, you may not have permission to use this feature, but if you’re sure that you do, then you should hear the message be read aloud.
6. Tableflip Kaomoji
If you’re looking for a cool kaomoji to prepend or append to your messages, I’d definitely recommend trying out the following command, which is a command that adds a tableflip kaomoji to your message. To try it out, simply type the following: /tableflip This will create a cool kaomoji for you to make use of.
7. GIPHY GIFs
To search for a GIPHY GIF, simply type the following command into the Discord message box. /giphy [your GIF keyword] You’ll see lots of GIFs pop up, which are related to your keyword. If you see any which you’d like to send, click on it, and you’ll then be able to see it!
8. Spoiler
If you’d like to mark a message as a spoiler, then you could do so by typing two || symbols before and after the message. However, if you’d prefer to use a Discord command for this, then you’re in luck! Simply the following command into the Discord message box in order to mark a message as a spoiler: /spoiler [your message here] This will obscure the message so that others will know there could be a potential spoiler in the message, perfect for discussing the plot twists of films, books and so forth. 9. Tenor GIFs
If you’d like to search Tenor for GIFs instead of with the other alternative (GIPHY), then you can make use of the following command: /tenor [keyword you’d like to search for] This is great if you prefer to search for GIFs on Tenor or if you’ve been looking for a particular GIF, but it doesn’t seem to be available on GIPHY.
